October 5, 2019: Ohio Chapter fall field day, southwestern Ohio 20 miles from Cincinnati. Observe walnut trees ages 1 - 6, and plantations of 36 and 52 years, discuss and demonstrate: plantation design, tree spacing, direct seeding, terminal and corrective pruning, thinning, and native tree management, among other walnut management topics.
April 27, 2019: Ohio Chapter spring field day, Caldwell, Ohio (Southeastern Ohio – Noble County). Morning tour of the Ball-Caldwell house and tree planting, discussing pruning and coppicing. After lunch, walking tour of Spring Hill Woodlands to discuss walnut and oak plantings and discuss management or review TSI or managed oak stands (location weather dependent). See the flyer. October 21, 2017: Ohio Chapter fall field day at the Mark Kammer farm near Springfield, Ohio (6300 Moorefield Rd). September 24, 2016: Ohio Chapter fall field day at the Tom Jones farm near Gallipolis, OH and John Kelsey farm near Southside, WV. Tour a 40 acre walnut plantation planted in 1990. October 17, 2015: Ohio Chapter fall field day at the Bill Hammitt Shaker Tract Tree Farm in Harrison, Ohio in the morning and the Wayne Burnett plantation in Dillsboro, Indiana in the afternoon. Morning topics include fir and walnut mixed plantings and other species hardwood plantings, plus a tour of an intensively managed 1968 plantation. Also a 1984 genetic improvement experiment.
