Walnut Council 2026 Annual Meeting
July 26-28, 2026
Fairfield Inn/Center Lake Pavilion
Warsaw, Indiana
The field tours will be looking at a seed orchard using scion wood from veneer trees on the property. There are also planting and natural forests to observe and learn from.
Warsaw in part of northern Indiana lake country. It is also close to Amish country so there is a variety of things for the whole family to see.

Missouri Walnut Council Spring Field Day
March 20: Tour of Independent Stave Company, New Florence
March 21: Tour of Harlan Palm Family Tree Farm, Callaway County
March 20-21 2026: This two day event will feature a tour of a stave mill in New Florence , MO. There we will see mill operations and have a discussion with a log buyer. Friday evening will have a business meeting and a discussion on white oak management with foresters from University of Missouri and the Independent Stave Company. Saturday will feature a Tour of the Harlan Palm Estate Tree Farm. Topics will include, thinning, invasive species, pruning, and a demonstration of a Stihl power pole saw. Michigan Spring Field Day
April 18:
Field day at Centennial Acres Tree Farm, 16600 CD Avenue, Augusta, Michigan, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Coffee, water, doughnuts and lunch will be provided. There is no charge. Topics include equipment demonstrations, tour of mixed hardwood stand and red pine stand, Drone demonstration, and new walnut seedlings.

Ohio Spring Field Day
April 18:
I want to invite you to my plantation to help, guide, and work at some of those tasks. An OH Division of Forestry area forester and I marked 19 trees in my 1984 plantation that need to be thinned. We will discuss why, or why not, they need to be thinned; we will drop a couple to see what they look like inside and discuss if future thinning is needed. This will be the 5th thinning for this plantation. I also planted clover in this plantation last October, and we can see how well it established as a green manure source.
A second task that needs to be accomplished is to observe, discuss, and initiate thinning in an 11-year planting that was severely damaged by a windstorm three years ago. I have correctively pruned the trees heavily the last two years, but some will never make a walnut tree worthy of remaining in a plantation . Both high and low coppicing was practiced on several trees. Will it do any good...only time will tell.
We will observe the early results of planting the "Best of the Best" walnut seed selected after three generations of improved walnut trees. One ortwo tree I really want to single out.
