October 18, 2025: Explore North Central Technical College Wood Technology Center of Excellence, featuring a brand new state of the art sawmill and saw filing shop. Free pancake breakfast, hands on tours and activities, and a kickoff to National Forest Products Week. Program director of the Center is Logan Wells, a former national board member and Walnut Council member. Pancake breakfast sponsored by K of C and Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association. 9 am - noon. In the afternoon will be a guided tour of Kretz Industrial Forest. Past Events

May 17, 2025: Field day in Crawford County at the Paul Lochner woods. We will look at walnut plantings, pruning, direct seeding, walnut harvesting, recent patch harvest, extensive invasive plant control, other successful and unsuccessful plantings, high quality large walnut and other hardwoods. Paul harvests and cracks nuts and does some of his own logging.

October 12, 2024: Field day at Al Goetsch property near Beloit with Black Hawk Chapter of WWOA. Will include optional property workday on Friday October 11.

May 18, 2024: Field day at Don Hoffman property near Black River Falls with Chippewa Valley Chapter of WWOA.

October 7, 2023: Field day at the Karpinsky property in Columbia County near Portage.

May 20, 2023: Kelly Farm in Monroe Country. Topics of discussion include Purdue #1 trees, using tree shelters, managing prairies, chestnut, and more.

May 21, 2022: Roger Krause’s farm near Viroqua.

May 22, 2021: 8:30 am - 3 pm CT. Spring chapter field day at Powell property, Spring Green, WI. Agenda includes discussion of improvement of a low quality hardwood stand to convert to oaks, managing natural walnut regeneraton in an old field, bluebird habitat, and timber sale considerations.

October 14, 2020: Online virtual meeting via Zoom. A Wisconsin Tree Farm Success– Artificial Regeneration of Hardwoods In the Driftless. Come join John and Carol Nielsen on a Virtual tour of their beautiful Southern Wisconsin Tree Farm as they discuss some of the lessons learned from their trials of hardwood direct seedings and plantings. The discussion will be led by DNR foresters Tom Hill and Jake Elder.
